Being farmers as well as publicans we decided that with the paddocks we have, it would be sensible to keep a few livestock in the grounds, this also helps with keeping the grass down.

Our flock of Texels arrived having lambed on the farm at Wraxall.  Two days later Emily discovered a new born lamb by the stream and no mother.  After a bit of sheep chasing we discovered the culprit.  A ewe lamb that had been caught unexpectedly by the ram.  We now have an orphan lamb called Easter who is always willing to receive a good feed from a bottle of milk.

Emily had always fancied keeping a couple of goats but was not sure that the idea would go down too well with Mark.  How to get round this?   Emilys cunning plan; if Mark is given them as a birthday present, then he won't have much choice.  Come and meet Pearl and Sapphire, they came with these names not our choice.  They are British Alpines, a dairy goat, so one day when we have a billy you can look forward to homemade goats cheese!

We also keep a few chickens in the orchard and when their laying is prolific the eggs feature on the menu.

At our May Poultry Auction Emily bought George and Geraldine, two geese.  Now they have just been joined by Holly & Henry so we how have a proper gaggle.

Mark then decided that three dogs were not enough so he went out and bought Grace the Destroyer, she is a wonderful lurcher only a few months old but always in trouble with Emily for eating teabags, napkins, flowers..................
